A favorite of IBMF family programming, Unique Derique has performed hundreds of workshops and residencies across the country honoring the ancient art of Hambone as a celebration of defiance. An artist in residence for 15 years with the Prescott Circus Theater in West Oakland, Derique continues to pass the torch to youth ages 8-20. Unique Derique & the Hambone Kids performed in the 2009 and 2011 IMBF and make a fantastic impression with their syncopated-ham-slappin, mouth-poppin rhythms. The Hambone Kids have grown up doing Hambone in the Prescott Circus, and are now some of the finest carriers of this African-American tradition.
