Barbatuques | São Paulo, Brasil WEB | VIDEO Founded by musician Fernando Barba, BARBATUQUES is an exciting 12 member Body Music ensemble (6 are performing in this festival) that moves the rich musical traditions of Brazil through their "circle orchestra" - exploring composition, choreography and improvisation through the range of sounds on bodies. Touring throughout Brazil and Europe since 1996, the IBMF has an ongoing artistic relationship with Barbatuques that spurred the establishment of the Festival in 2008, where Crosspulse debuted Barbatuques to North American audiences. Barbatuques subsequently produced the 3rd IBMF, in São Paulo, Brazil, November, 2010 and are a dynamic addition to our 6th IBMF - with 6 members participating in the Body Tjak 13 collaboration. Barbatuques is popular throughout South America and Europe, and utilized in international high-visibility performances (World Cup, television commercials). Their funky, popular style appeals to diverse audiences. The company thrives on bringing the tools of expression to every body, making the arts accessible through predominantly non-verbal communication. |
